Privacy Policy
In short
Stonetide replaces your new tab page with a small shore. Everything it remembers stays in your browser, on your device. It makes no network requests, has no account, and sends nothing to us or to anyone else. We never receive any of your data.
What Stonetide stores on your device
Stonetide uses your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local) for the following:
- Your collection: which of the 64 finds you have found, how many times, and the tide number and date of the first find.
- Progress: the number of tides (counted new tab opens), the time of your last counted tab, how many days you have used Stonetide, a few counters that decide when the next find or storm tide arrives, and which combinations you have unlocked (for example, a cairn of five stones).
- The shore: where the stones, shells and sea glass currently lie, and the window size they were saved at, so the shore looks the same the next time you open a tab. A copy of this layout is also kept in the page's local storage so the shore can appear instantly.
- Usage counters: how many tabs you have opened and how many of them you interacted with, how many times you dragged or threw a find, how many clips you recorded, and the dates of your active days in the last 14 days. These numbers stay on your device and are never sent anywhere.
- Settings: Quiet mode, sound, motion preference, and whether you have seen the first-tab note and hint.
- Technical data: a random number used to draw the shapes of your finds, the date Stonetide was installed, and, if a saved record is ever damaged, a backup copy of it.
What Stonetide does not do
- It does not read your browsing history, the pages you visit, or their contents.
- It does not record your cursor position or keystrokes. Only the totals listed above are counted.
- It has no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- It does not use sign-in, cloud sync or
chrome.storage.sync. - It does not load code, fonts or images from the internet. Everything it needs is inside the extension.
Clips
When you press Record 8 s, Stonetide records eight seconds of the shore as a video file (MP4 or WebM):
- The video is held in your browser's memory while it records and while you preview it.
- If you choose Save clip, your browser downloads the file to its usual download location. No server is involved.
- If you choose Discard, the video is removed from memory.
By default the clip shows the Stonetide name in its corner; untick Name in corner before saving to leave it out. Clips are never uploaded.
Permissions
Stonetide asks for one permission, storage, to keep the data listed above on your device. It also sets itself as your new tab page, which Chrome lets you confirm or undo the first time you open a new tab. It does not request access to your tabs, history, websites, downloads, clipboard, camera, microphone or location.
Deleting your data
Remove Stonetide from Chrome (Settings → Extensions → Stonetide → Remove). This deletes everything it stored. There is no account to close and no copy of your data anywhere else.
Your rights
We do not receive, sell or share any data, so we hold nothing about you that we could show, correct or delete on request. This applies to users everywhere, including under the GDPR, KVKK and CCPA.
This website
This page and the rest of stonetide.oguzhd.com are served from our own server. The server keeps no access log of your visits. The site sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and has no analytics. Every file it loads (fonts, images and scripts) comes from the same address; nothing is loaded from other services.
Changes
If a future version changes what Stonetide stores or starts sending any data, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date, and the change will be described in the store listing.
